About the editor-in-chief

  • Hanna Mclean (EJC)
    I was born and raised in Seattle, home to the gravesite of Bruce Lee and the birthplace of rockstar, Jimi Hendrix. Possessing dual citizenship to the USA and the Netherlands, I have always had a deep appreciation for travel and different cultures. When I was 18 I moved to Switzerland following high school to pursue my university career. After a year in Lugano, CH I decided that I needed a change and headed to the Netherlands where I continued my studies for the next three years at University College Maastricht. I recently graduated with a bachelor's degree in Media Studies and am currently working at the European Journalism Centre as an annotator, community administrator, and the new Editor-in-Chief to the TH!NK Community. In my free time I love to travel, read books, and hang out with friends. I wish to someday write a best selling novel and work for Conde Nast Traveller magazine.

Need a bit of TH!NKspiration?

Hello fellow TH!NKers!
 

As the first week of the competition comes to an end, I wanted to leave you some food for thought that you can all use over the weekend. Think of it as TH!NKspiration ;-)

 

I came up with a list of categories related to water that you all can use as a starting point for your writing. Under each category I listed a few topics that are relevant to the issue. They are as follows:

  1. Politics and Policy/Development and Aid

    1. Water Framework Directive: a new initiative from EU covering all EU countries.


  2. Pollution and Disaster

    1. Australian and Brazilian floods.

    2. Rhine River in Germany was polluted just last week.


  3. Economics and Industry

    1. Blue Fin tuna fish is dying out thanks to overfishing. See here, here, and here.


  4. Human Rights

    1. Hurricane Katrina’s wrath is still in New Orleans.

    2. Only 1 out of 6 people in the world have access to clean water.


  5. Shortage & Management

    1. Droughts in Kenya are taking a toll. (TH!NK3 people going on the Kenya trip, this is for you!!)


  6. Women, Children, Sanitation, Health, and Disease

    1. Women in Africa are walking for miles to get water that isn’t even properly cleaned.


  7. Climate Change & Environment

    1. Forestry: This is the same place TH!NKers from the TH!NK3 competition round went on their previous trip to Malaysia.

    2. Sea water levels are rising.


  8. Media and Education

    1. Purchasing water bottles is not a good thing! (This has a cool video you all may want to watch)


  9. Technology

    1. Dutch dikes

 

Have a look at some of the articles within these points. You may find them to be rather useful in your quest of writing the most influential blog post on water.
